No, thank you, Mark.

When my "conversion" occurred last week, it made me laugh - my views have shifted 180 degrees but still backed up with the same reason (the global nature of the net).

Thanks, Sam. I used to get asked that a lot, while I was managing the govt.nz space. While I didn't anticipate Twitter back then, the value of unique was always apparent to me, and never more so than now.

It's more specific than that for me. It's why and how you foster high preforming teams and get them to think about and report on their collective achievement.

When time and cost are fixed: the only thing I can add is value.

Oh. Didn't mean to make you cry at all. Being engaged is wonderful! Tomorrow will come by in a flash ;)

Oh Wanaka... I've been there too, I remember. So beautiful! Right, looking forward to the photos with the blog post in 2011!

Thanks. I read your comment and cried (Megan's home tomorrow!).

Otago's Central Lake's District includes Wanaka and Queenstown, Cromwell and Alexander. Tekapo's probably Canterbury but they look the same (although the lakes aren't the same striking colour).

That's so beautiful, congratulations (again, since I had already given them to you on twitter the day it happened). I'm really bad with geography so I don't know which are the Otago Lakes (Don't mock me, I'm not from NZ!)but I do remember going to Lake Tekapo and absolutely falling in love with the landscape. The lady inside the Church of the Good Shepperd, right by the lake, said that they have lots of weddings there every year. It was such an amazing place I've kept her words in my mind... you never know. ;)

Thanks JR, my fingers are rusty after the long absence, and it will take me some time to get back up to full pace...

I agree the innovation of the individuals will drive organisational capability in this area and things are moving pretty fast.

Although we should be aware of the eventual fate of some cyanobacteria, imprisoned <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chloroplast" rel="nofollow">chloroplastic</a> slaves of the larger, dominant <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eukaryote" rel="nofollow">eukaryotic cell</a>.

Good to see you back Sam.

I would just make the point (not in any way defensively, mind) that corporate communications is a function, but it is also -to use your metaphor- a collection of organisms. And the ability of the function to adapt is really an expression of the collective ability of those organisms to respond to the new environment.

And there seem to be plenty of examples of that happening...

If the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Many-worlds_interpretation" rel="nofollow">many worlds interpretation</a> of quantum mechanics is true - this would actually work.

If the machine kills every "version" of you in the multiverse that hasn't won a particular lottery draw then subjectively you would wake up in only the universes in which you had won.

Although thinking about it, there is probably more chance of the machine breaking down than there is of winning the lottery, so the most likely outcome is waking up to a malfunctioning machine...
